caught me off guard.  By 9PM Christmas Eve

there wasn’t even a single Christmas tree stand

open on the whole West Coast.  Pretty much the

same thing happened to the analog broadcast

television market.  After a vibrant 60 years, the

analog broadcast television market took a nose

dive and is presently pretty flat.

If a ham were in the right spot at the right time

they might even be given a broadcast television

transmitter… for free.  That’s what happened to

Steve K7SF.  He is now the proud owner of an

EMCEE TU100 channel 17 UHF television

transmitter.   With the flip of a few dip switches

on the Agile Modulator and cranking a bit on the

tube cavity tuning screw, plus discarding the

channel 17 output filter, Steve got himself a cool

200 watts of video at no cost.  Free…is a very

good price!

Steve’s picture is truly “broadcast quality”.  The

quiescent idleing current in the tube is 3,400v at

260ma…about 884 watts, so that 200 watts of

video is hard class A.  In fact there is no spectral

re-growth of the lower vestigial side band, sound

or color carriers.  The output is a faithful

reproduction of what comes out of the modulator…

just bigger.

When tubes deteriorate to 75 % power, they go

flat quickly and are a bit expensive to rebuild.

Freeland Products in Covington, Louisiana

charges $2,300 to rebuild a 1 KW, Thompson

TH347.   If you are considering tube transmitters

take this into consideration.  There are even a

few solid state UHF amps available out there.

So have your electrician pull a 220 single phase

or perhaps a three phase 440 line…throttle that

4CX10,000 back to the legal limit….and get ready

for some long winded ATV monologs.   They’re

built for key down 12-14 months at a time.

Drop by the W7AMQ BATC stream, Saturday

11AM and Monday 7PM West Coast time, for

show and tell.  Steve might even show up with

some real nifty digital photos.

Dennis sent me this folow-up to his article:

You might let your readers know that there are

surplus 1KW NTSC transmitters all over this

country sitting in storage rooms, eventually

being hauled to the garbage dump.

Thank you Dennis for your News.

WOW! other great net get together with myself

Mario, KD6ILO, Dave, M0SAT and other Dave,

G8ADM. G8ADM had his mobile (2000 Land

Rover Defender) ATV set-up operational on the

air along with a great antenna system installed.

He was testing his mobile set-up with M0SAT

the pictures sent from the mobile were a perfect

P5. I did get to visit Dave, M0SAT in his shack

via Skype and we talked about what they were

doing that day we also talked about linking

repeaters via the Internet using a dedicated port

on the repeater which they have not yet installed

till they get a good broadband connection at the

repeater site. On my own personnel repeater I

had installed a dedicated port for an IP

connection and it works well and can be remote

controlled using Echolink using the DTMF fiction

in the program the repeater can also be

controlled via a radio simplex frequency like most

ATV repeater systems. We also had other guest

G0DAE joining use latter in the net. Dave, G8ADM

also gave a tour of his mobile ATV interior set-up

"very very nice set-up." My field day set-up will

have remote radio DTMF control access controlling

Activity on most ATV batc repeater streams from

the United States had low or no activity lots of slide

shows but no live nets or events, I have a list of

those stations. Most activity on batc streams have

been from England lots of technical information

being passed along, live video events of ATV

mobile activity and show and tell of ham shacks

and how their repeater systems are engineered

etc. There will be an "ATV Fun Fest 2010" on June

12 & 13 at 1200 UTC on the GB3KM repeater

and on other GB3 repeater systems so check

them out there will be lots of mobile ATV set-ups

for the two day event. Here are some of those US

ATV repeaters that have been very active on the

batc streams they are, W7AMQ, W6CX, W6ATN,

WR8ATV. As we know there are a lot of ATV

repeaters that are active in the US, but they do

not have any batc streaming as part of there

system. Have a great week and I will see you all

on the Amatuer Television world wide network, 73!

Blueridge ON

The Blueridge (Frost Peak) ATN repeater was put back into

operation at 6:34 PM last Saturday.

I say Gary, K6IOJ put up the first picture and then there were

some testing on the tower cam which is now working fine as well.

I heard Mark, W6MAF talking about the repairs and he said that

the camera problem was due to some extreme stress on the cable.

Most likely falling ice.

Mark and Gary are the only ATVers that use Blueridge and they

have been without it for about six months.

Repairs Needed for the ATN-CA Repeaters
________________________________________
Blueridge:

1. Establish link from Mt. Potosi
Mt  Wilson:

Saw testing on 3/21/10.on 434 MHz and it was working
Oat Mtn.:
1. Replace plastic wire ties with appropriate fasteners.
2. Tune 2.4 GHz link dipole for better SWR. It would be a

good idea to sweep the 1200 MHz antenna at the same

    time as well.
Santiago Peak:
1. Remove KC6UQH's call and Palomar from the W6ATN

repeaters ID's (late spring early summer 08 when the new controller is installed)
2. Look into weak signal getting into one of the inputs.

3. Find intermittent receive problem for link from Oat Mtn..(1/24/09)

4. Resolve problems with WiFi getting into receiver for Snow Peak

    & Point Loma (April 28, 2009)

Snow Peak:

1. 2.4 Ghz input is operational but has audio problems due to

receiver problems on the network hub.. July 23, 2009

2. The 1200 MHz output does work and you can watch.

3. Get repeater back on the air.

Point Loma, W6RDF: No Repairs Needed/Fully Operational

   Trustee Robert Swain, KA4JSR

1. Off the air do to AC problems at the shack.

2. 434 input unuseable (4/03.01)
