Oat Mtn. News

News from WA6FGK

Bryon, Just got back from  Mammoth, Great Skiing!
Anyway, I did repair the temp antenna (which we
think it may have been manufactured at the wrong
frequency) but, please give credit to Mike (SVT)
for the repair of the permanent 440 Meg antenna
in the next news letter; he explained the repair
process he accomplished, quite intricate and time
consuming,  I understand you wrote the article after
my visit (two weeks ago), since then,  last Thursday
we ( Mike, Alan and I) were able to accomplish
quite a bit to bring the system up to where it should
be. Mikes repair work on the antenna was the key
to the improved signal quality. Thanks, 73's Chuck

^ 3 GHz Output

Rumor has it that the frequency of the new output on Oat Mtn.

is going to be 3.480 GHz. Or I guess it could be something

different. It seems to be a closely held secret and I'm not

sure why.

^ Interference on 434 News

It has been noted that the interfering signal is on 438.39 MHz

and is something connected to the Internet. And it is thought

that the source is in the Ventura area. There was a QSO with

a Ham on the interfering signal who was identified as

W6PXT there was going to be an exchange of emails to

work out this problem but there seems to be a problem

making contact. Keep your fingers crossed.

^ 900 MHz Downtilt Antenna

Recently there was a new 900 MHz antenna installed on

Oat Mtn. with a downtilt and it seems that it hasn't made

the reception of the 900 MHz output from Oat any better.

In fact from reports I have heard it has gotten worse.

^ Fades are Back

Over the last three weeks the amount of fades have increased

on the 1200 MHz link signal coming from Santiago Peak.

News from Mario

Hi Bryon,

No ATV activity to report here from San Diego,

Don't know where the ATV operators are I still

have  my repeater but its' not in service due to

lack of activity. Polamor is not in service and

Point Loma is out also.

73 Mario, KD6ILO

DM12jw

Torrey Hills San Diego.

^ Santiago 2.4 GHz Problem

I saw Dave on ATN this Sunday and he said that there was

some kind of problem with the 2.4 GHz input. And that

someone is going to have to go up to the mountain and

see what the problem is. He also said that Mike Collis

is aware of the problem.

Later on in the evening he said that there was some work

done on the tower by someone other than ATN workers.

And while the work was being done it left the ATN antenna

tilted or they blew the fuse on the 2.4 GHz pre amp

and that is why there is a problem with the 2.4 GHz input

on Santiago.

He did a demo comparing his 434 to his 2.4 signal and he

said his his 434 looks better than than his 2.4. And his 434

has problems with the radar from March Air Force Base and

other noise problems.

So if you had problems getting in with your 2.4 GHz signal

this may have been the reason.

He also said the Mike Collis had spent a day working on the Oat

Mtn. repeater and a day working on the Point Loma repeater

this week.

^ Wilson Working

I saw Allan doing some testing on Mt. Wilson from his QTH

is Northridge. Allan was transmitting in on the 434 MHz input.

It was operational. And I think Allan was talking to Mike Collis

on the phone while he was at the repeater making adjustments.

Allan normally operates into the ATN repeaters via Oat Mtn.

where he has a much better signal.

The Mtn. Wilson ATN repeater has not had an operator using it

since last Field Day, to my best recollection. And that was Matt

and we haven't seen him since. And a couple years before that we

had John, WB6ATN. And John dropped off the face of the earth

and hasn't been heard from since. Where are you John?

Mt. Wilson also has a 2.4 GHz input but when it was installed

there was no one that had a path to the repeater that had a

2.4 GHz rig. So I haven't ever seen anyone work the 2.4 input

on Wilson.

Repairs Needed for the ATN-CA Repeaters
________________________________________
Blueridge:

1. Establish link from Mt. Potosi

2. Repair 900 MHz output transmitter and reinstall

3. Get repeater back on the air.
Mt  Wilson:

Saw testing on 3/21/10.on 434 MHz and it was working
Oat Mtn.:
1. Replace plastic wire ties with appropriate fasteners.
2. Tune 2.4 GHz link dipole for better SWR. It would be a

good idea to sweep the 1200 MHz antenna at the same

    time as well.
Santiago Peak:
1. Remove KC6UQH's call and Palomar from the W6ATN

repeaters ID's (late spring early summer 08 when the new controller is installed)
2. Look into weak signal getting into one of the inputs.

3. Find intermittent receive problem for link from Oat Mtn..(1/24/09)

4. Resolve problems with WiFi getting into receiver for Snow Peak

    & Point Loma (April 28, 2009)

5. Problem with 2.4 GHz input

Snow Peak:

1. 2.4 Ghz input is operational but has audio problems due to

receiver problems on the network hub.. July 23, 2009

2. The 1200 MHz output does work and you can watch.

3. Get repeater back on the air.

Point Loma, W6RDF: No Repairs Needed/Fully Operational

   Trustee Robert Swain, KA4JSR

1. Off the air do to AC problems at the shack.
