^ Portland News - BATC.TV

and Cross Promotion

This is an email from Dennis, WA7DRO:

The Portland Repeater is now in the http://www.batc.tv

"repeater streaming" section as W7AMQ.  Drop by and

say hello.  Net times are Monday Evenings 7-8 PM PDT

and Saturday Mornings 11-12 Noon PDT.

At http://www.oregonatv.org we have a TV screen, minus

the blog, right in the middle of our homepage.

Internet ATV repeater output streaming provides coverage

in poor reception areas. Helps with fine transmitter and

antenna adjustments where the third transmitter harmonic

overloads the receiver front end. We can now call all of our

ham and even non ham friends and invite them to watch...

regardless of geography. While operating QRP short wave...

just key up the local ATV repeater and "open up a window"

for the ham on the other end of the circuit.  Receive antennas

and down converters are no longer the first step of operation

any more...operating ATV just got twice as easy to get started.

The blog area provides yet another talk back layer for wise

cracks and friendly insults about the person currently

transmitting pictures.  Cross promotion is now practical...

while checking into some of the specialty nets that give each

person a turn,... one can casually mention to those listening

that they can currently watch you live on their ham shack

computer...while holding your pet project up to the camera

for show and tell...they can't do that on 2 Meter SSB!!!

Dennis Belles WA7DRO

Thank you Dennis for your news and insightful comments.

News Update

Viv, G1IXE sent me a copy of their local newsletter and I thought

you all might enjoy it:

Welcome to our new member’s, congratulations

to Carolyn on passing her exam her call

sign is M6FUA.

It’s that time of year when I appeal to all

our members who can help in any small way

or can advertise our rally on the air

The West of England radio rally on June 28th

at the cheese and grain hall Frome Somerset

BA11 1BE 10AM -3PM.

Shaun G8VPG has been extremely busy

persuading several new traders to come

along to this year’s rally.

Good news the cafe at the cheese and grain

is now under new management with a much

improved menu.

Please down load our poster and pass it on

to your friends it’s available in pdf format

from www.stvg.co.uk

Please remember the rally is now our main

source of income to keep the two repeaters

going plus giving donations to other groups.

The streaming facility at GB3ZZ was off line

for eight days when our loaned PC failed

most things can be remotely  controlled

off site but gaining access to the site can

cause delays  due to the high security

systems at the building.

John G7CAR rebuilt the PC when the parts

arrived from the suppliers we are often

asked about the high quality of our video

stream from GB3ZZ we put this down to

being very close to the BT exchange

(100 mts) and having a very fast uplink

speed on our broadband from the site,

quite a lot of the other groups have to

rely on one of their members relaying

off air pictures and audio on to the

internet for them.

Dates to remember

Summer fun A.T.V Contest Saturday 7th

of June until Sunday 8th June

For more details on contest news see

B.A.T.C web site also have a look at the

forum where details should appear of

the stations that will be active

The B.A.T.C are holding their convention

this year at Hellidon lakes hotel near Daventry Northamptonshire NN11 6GG on Sunday

14th of June full details of the programme

of events can be obtained from www.batc.org.uk

Roy G8CKN reads the GB2RS news on

television every Sunday at 09.30 via GB3IV

and the B.A.T.C video stream.

West of England radio rally Sunday 28th of June.

AGM Thursday 1ST October at Filton.

Christmas social Saturday the 12th December

We have been requested to ask our members

if any of you would like to provide a video

link across the circuit at Prescott Hill

climbs course near Cheltenham sometime in

September.

Full details of what is required please contact Giles

GONXA g0nxa@hotmail.co.uk

This is the mail Giles sent me.

We are hoping to transmit pictures from the

car to a receive point either across the valley

and then feed them back to the site, or if possible,

do away with the midpoint.  Our problem is that

three months to produce working kit is too short.

I was wondering if there were members of your

group who would be interested in this project.

Hope to see you all at the rally

^ Big Digital News from Melbourne

I received this bit of fantastic news from Peter, VK3BFG:

(Hi Bryon

Here’s something from VK3)

On Sunday 7th June the Melbourne Amateur TV Repeater,

VK3RTV conducted its first test on DVB-T. High quality

pictures were received more than 40 kilometers away,

only limited by lack of stations further out.

The new digital system is multiplexed with two independent

video channels each with two channel audio. VK3RTV has

three input frequencies and it is possible to have any two of

the three running simultaneously. Funding for the project

came from Amateur Radio Victoria and the Wireless Institute

of Australia.

During the test, VK3RTV1 carried live video, while VK3RTV2

a colour bar test signal. The test was introduced by Jim Linton,

VK3PC President of Amateur Radio Victoria.

VK3RTV is one of the oldest continuously running ATV

repeaters, first on air in 1977. It was built and has been

maintained and upgraded by Peter VK3BFG over thirty+

years with the help of others in the Melbourne ATV Group.

The digital project was proposed and engineered by Peter.

(Will keep you posted with updates , Regards Peter VK3BFG)

Thank you Peter for your D-ATV News and looking forward

to your updates. N6IFU

Repairs Needed for the ATN-CA Repeaters
________________________________________
Blueridge:
1. Replace cut cable and get it back on the Grid. (6/2/09)
Mt. Wilson:
1. Install 2.4 GHz Receiver ????
2. Build and install 2.4 GHz receiver for link from Blueridge (on hold 5/5/08)
3. Might need an additional port on the controller????
Oat Mtn.:

Santiago Peak:
1. Remove KC6UQH's call and Palomar from the W6ATN

repeaters ID's (late spring early summer 08 when the new controller is installed)
2. Look into weak signal getting into one of the inputs.

3. Find intermittent receive problem for link from Oat Mtn..(1/24/09)

4. Resolve problems with WiFi getting into receiver for Snow Peak

    & Point Loma (April 28, 2009)

5. Install new 5 GHz transmitter once it is repaired (3/10/09)

Snow Peak:

1. Not Operational. (May 09)

Point Loma: No Repairs Needed/Fully Operational
