Update on ATV link to Arizona Many years ago Matt Krick of Golden Valley AZ - outside of Kingman - was talking about building a link from Las Vegas to Phoenix. If I recall correctly he gave up the idea because he could not find a site in the Hualapai Mountains overlooking Kingman AZ Tests were made back then and there was line of site to Mt Potosi in Las Vegas and White Tanks west of Phoenix. Matt's email is - or was - xxxxx and I forwarded your newsletter to him. Perhaps he'll get back to you. From what I hear the White Tanks repeater is no longer operational. Ask Ron AE6QU about it. There is no ATN-AZ activity at all and the only activity is on the AATV repeater - and even there there is almost none. Bil Munsil K1ATV HAM TV Hams should be seen as well as heard. Mesa AZ Thanks for the update Bil. Here is some feedback from Matt on the the Arizona link: Working on moving into a new house so ham is kinda on the back burner at the moment. There is some hope to gain building space on Low Getz peak during the KGMN-FM rebuild project. Thanks for your feedback Matt. ^ The ATVQ is in the mail and you should be receiving your winter edition in the mail soon. ________________________________________________ Digital-ATV ________________________________________________ ************************************************************ Send me your D-ATV News.. atv-newsletter@hotmail.com _______________________________________________ Buy-Sell-Trade _______________________________________________ ^ If you are interested in getting on ATV with a 2.4 GHz FM transmitter I have them for sale. News ___________________________________________ Oat Mtn. is still operating fine. ___________________________________________ ^ A woman and a man are involved in a car accident on a snowy, cold Monday morning; it's a bad one. Both of their cars are totally demolished, but amazingly neither of them is hurt. After they crawl out of their cars, the man is yelling about women drivers. The woman says, 'So, you're a man. That's interesting. I'm a woman. Wow, just look at our cars! There's nothing left, but we're unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should be friends and live in peace for the rest of our days.' Flattered, the man replies, 'Oh yes, I agree completely, this must be a sign from God! But you're still at fault... women shouldn't be allowed to drive.' The woman continues, 'And look at this, here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune.' She hands the bottle to the man. The man nods his head in agreement, opens it and drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman. The woman takes the bottle, puts the cap back on and hands it back to the man. The man asks, 'Aren't you having any?' The woman replies, 'No. I think I'll just wait for the police...' Joke thanks to N6IWY, Spencer *********************************************** Got a joke? send it to atv-newsletter@hotmail.com _______________________________________ _______________________________________ ^ ____________________________________ ATN-CA Winter Meeting Update The ATN-CA Newsletter was sent out this week but there was no mention of what happened at the Winter Meeting. In fact there was no mention of the meeting. I know that there was a lot going on at the meeting and I was expecting to get an update about all the changes to the Constitution and by-laws. I am sure that the "Winter Meeting" is news worthy. What happened? ^ It was brought up on the net this week that the Point Loma ATV repeater will be moved to a new location. The Point Loma repeater is currently located on the coast and it's antenna's are at about 440 feet above sea level and it's coverage is limited. Moving it to a mountain top in the area should greatly increase it's coverage.
____________________________________________________ ATN-CA Repeater Report ________________________________________ Repairs Needed for the ATN-CA Repeaters ________________________________________ Blueridge: Mt. Wilson: 1. Install 2.4 GHz Receiver ???? 2. Build and install 2.4 GHz receiver for link from Blueridge (on hold 5/5/08) 3. Might need an additional port on the controller???? Oat Mtn.: 1. Replace plastic wire ties with appropriate fasteners. 2. Tune 2.4 GHz link dipole for better SWR. It would be a good idea to sweep the 1200 MHz antenna at the same time as well. Santiago Peak: 1. Remove KC6UQH's call and Palomar from the W6ATN repeaters ID's (late spring early summer 08 when the new controller is installed) 2. Look into weak signal getting into one of the inputs. 3. Find intermittent receive problem for link from Oat Mtn..(1/24/09) 4. Check into potential problem with 1200 MHz transmitter or amp.(1/24/09) 5. Install new 5 GHz transmitter once it is repaired (3/10/09) Snow Peak: 1. Repair noise problem on audio. Point Loma: No Repairs Needed/Fully Operational Mount Potosi: ______________________________________________ Letters to the Editor ********************************************************************* If you have an opinion or viewpoint that you would like to express to the readers, please submit your letters to: atv-newsletter@hotmail.com _____________________________________________ See you all on ATV, Bryon Foster N6IFU Editor and Publisher of the "ATV Newsletter" Please send this newsletter to anyone you think will enjoy it.
