World News this Week

^ New Subscriber, New Listings

and New Ideas

I received the following email this week from Dennis, WA7DRO

that I felt all would appreciate. Here is his email:

I would like to place myself on the news letter.

Dennis Belles WA7DRO

Here are a couple of active repeaters in Oregon that can be

added to your list.

Oregon Amateur Television Association-Portland

www.oregonatv.org

Salem Amateur Television Association-Salem

www.qsl.net/k7atv/

Glad to see internet TV taking off.  I would like to find out more

about your sling box, it would be nice to hook up a sling player to a

VOR to fire up the old repeater when ATN is active.  If you have

a sling catcher plugged into an internet server it would be even

better yet!

We have used the repeater, for the last 20 years, exactly two

hours each week...the rest of the time it sits idle, same with

Salem.  I have a friend with a excellent wide area coverage

repeater in Twin Falls Idaho.  There are only a couple of guys

that use it...
They desperately need content!  It's hard for them

to get people to gear up for ATV with out content, the same can

be said of countless repeaters around the world.

I would put a repeater up in Idaho Falls for the hams there if

there was content available but it is absolutely pointless.  I

even have a business there with high speed internet available.

I would love to have a dozen sling catchers from around the

world hooked to a video controller, or at least toggle between

stored addresses.

^ W7EMD Ustream

I received this email from Mario:

Please add W7EMD's Ustream.TV to your Video Wall and

newsletters for user information;

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/w7emd-tv

73, Mario KD6ILO ATN-WA

Echolink to ATN-CA

Don, KE6BXT has been working on a way to use "echolink"

here on the ATN repeaters so viewers on the BATC.TV

streaming video can communicate using voice.

Don has been doing some testing and I have heard K8JWT,

Jacob and W7TED, Ted on the repeater system via

echolink but no one has responded to them. And because

the link to Santiago is down at this time I was unable to

respond as well.

As soon as Don is ready with a press release with addresses

and protocols I will let you all know so you can also participate.

^ San Bernardino Microwave Society Meeting

This Thursday the 8th is the next meeting for the SBMS.

It starts at 7:00 PM PT (0300 UTC Friday the 9th)

It can be watched on the ATN-CA repeaters as well as the

BATC streaming video.

To log on to the streaming video go to www.batc.tv and look

for a button on the left column titled "Members Stream" and

click on it. Then click on the drop down tab and look for

KE6BXT and click on it and then click on watch. And you

will be good to go.

^ ATV Google Map Update/

With Help

I received a few email from readers that were having problems

using the ATV Map and Charles sent  me the following email

to help everyone out. And it is followed by last weeks article.

I have changed my Help page for the ATV Map page.

On the second line of text on the ATV map page there is  text

Help  If you click on that text it will take you the Help Page.

        Or just click on
 http://home.roadrunner.com/~cbeener/Help/Help.htm

It has picture and text to help in the use of my Map Page.
Hope this helps

Charles

Reprint from last week...........

If you have never visited Charles' website and his ATV map

you need to give it a look. And if you are new to ATV and

looking for others in your area it's a great place to start.

Great Job Charles, and here is WB8LGA's email:

Hi all

Well I changed my web page server to an other server again. I'm
back to roadrunner again.
If you had the Friends setup on the ATV map page you'll have to reset

^ Link to Santiago Peak Down

Last Friday evening I noticed that the 2.4 GHz link from Oat

to Santiago Peak wasn't operating. We still see everything

coming from Santiago here on Oat.

This same situation happened a few months back and the

problem ended up being a problem with a connector on

Santiago. We were without a link last time for about a

month until the problem was corrected.

Repairs Needed for the ATN-CA Repeaters
________________________________________
Blueridge:

Mt. Wilson:
1. Install 2.4 GHz Receiver ????
2. Build and install 2.4 GHz receiver for link from Blueridge (on hold 5/5/08)
3. Might need an additional port on the controller????
Oat Mtn.:
1. Replace plastic wire ties with appropriate fasteners.
2. Tune 2.4 GHz link dipole for better SWR. It would be a good idea to sweep the

1200 MHz antenna at the same time as well.

3. Reestablish 2.4 link to Santiago Peak (Dec. 26, 2008)
Santiago Peak:
1. Remove KC6UQH's call and Palomar from the W6ATN

repeaters ID's (late spring early summer 08 when the new controller is installed)
2. Look into weak signal getting into one of the inputs.

3. Reestableish Link from Oat Mtn.. (Dec. 26, 2008)
Snow Peak:

Point Loma: No Repairs Needed/Fully Operational

Mount Potosi:
