1. A frog at the bottom of the well ten metres deep begins to climb out. He climbs up three metres every day but slips back two metres each night.

After how many days will he be free?

One day Mr. Barmy went to the shop and bought a cat, a mouse and a large piece of cheese at a time. Then he had to cross the road to get his car. He could only carry one of the things. He couldn’t leave the cat alone with the mouse, because the cat would eat the mouse. And he couldn’t leave the mouse alone with the cheese because the mouse would eat the cheese.

If you put these seven sentences in the right order, you will see what Mr. Barmy did:


He came back with nothing in his hands.

He took the mouse across and put the cat, the mouse and the cheese in the car.


He returned with nothing in his hands again.


He brought the mouse back.
