SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS
Sport and Spectacle in the Ancient World
The 29th CASA biennial conference will be held at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, from Tuesday 28th to Thursday 30th June 2011 and will coincide with the opening of the National Arts Festival on the 30th June.
The theme of the conference is SPORT & SPECTACLE IN THE ANCIENT WORLD. Papers (20 minutes in length) may be on the theme, on other classical topics or may have a related interdisciplinary focus. In addition to the main theme the conference will feature two panels: one on 'Alexander in Africa' under the auspices of the Unisa Classics Colloquium, and the other on 'Classics in South Africa' organised by John Hilton. We shall welcome two keynote speakers Dr Zinon Papakonstantinou (University of Athens) and Prof. Martin Winkler (George Mason University).
